The climate crisis threatens the livelihoods of millions of people—especially those in the Global South, even though they have contributed the least to global warming. Overcoming the climate and food crises requires a radical societal transformation. But how can we overcome a system that is so deeply ingrained into our lives? Capitalism is influencing the way we think, it is embedded in our food, in the streets we walk on, and even in the supposed solutions to the crisis. When it comes to climate protection and food security, all too often false solutions are proposed that serve the interests of corporations and countries in the Global North more than they actually contribute to solving the crises. This article highlights examples of false solutions to the crises, but also of solutions that demonstrate what kind of social transformation is needed and how it can work.
